2011 Lone Oak Vineyard Chardonnay

Lone Oak Vineyard is located adjacent to Rosella’s Vineyard in the famed Santa Lucia Highlands, at about 250-400 feet in elevation and east facing slopes. The region is perfect for growing world class Chardonnay with its warm, breezey days and cool nights. Testarossa’s first vintage of this prime property owned by the Hahn Family was in 2010 and it received 93 points by Wine Enthusiast. Testarossa currently has eleven acres of Chardonnay from Lone Oak.

The growing season in the Santa Lucia Highlands in 2011 was one of the coolest and wettest on record. Happily, most of the fall rains that impacted other growing regions bypassed the SLH. The fruit was able to hang as long as necessary to achieve phenolic ripeness - flavor and acidity matched to the necessary sugar levels. The Chardonnay blocks at Lone Oak were picked in mid-October.

Upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was carefully hand sorted. A gentle gravity flow process is used throughout the winery. The juice went through primary fermentation in French oak cooperage with native yeasts; twenty-five percent of the barrels were new. Full secondary malo-lactic conversion occurred naturally. The wine was allowed eleven months of sur-lie barrel aging prior to bottling. Twenty-four barrels were produced.

"Medium yellow hue. Ripe apricots, fig, lemon, and butterscotch engage in an opulent aroma profile. These same attributes segue seamlessly into the palate, leading to ample richness. Great purity is achieved with vibrant acidity and well-focused barrel integration. This Chardonnay is definitely a crowd pleaser from start to end. Drink now through 2021."
