2014 Guidotti Vineyard Pinot Noir

Santa Lucia Highlands AVA
Last Vintage: 2014

Tasting Notes

“Brick red hue. Aromas of pomegranate, red cherry, cola, cranberry, unite with hints of nutmeg and spice. Flavors persist true to the aroma profile, elevating the sensory experience. The generous tannin profile is balanced with tangy acidity, giving way to a lively and lush palate. While this is one of our most windiest sites, it showcases an intricate, bright, and youthful finish. Enjoy now through 2021.”

~Bill Brosseau, Director of Winemaking

“One of the four vineyards that this winery entirely uses as a monopole bottling, this wine shows smoked pork, baked raspberry, crushed rosebuds and a touch of sesame on the nose. The palate’s backbone is a tangy cranberry fruit that is enhanced by pencil lead and cedar spice.”

Past Vintage Wine Scores

“Medium ruby color; bright, deep aromas of spiced cherry and raspberry; lively flavors of plum, cherry and raspberry; elegant and generous on the palate; good structure and balance; long finish. Elegant and generous Pinot with lots of flavor.”

The Pinot Report

“Magnificent on the nose of pure ripe red black cherry fruit. Dense and lush, Soft and round and velvety on the palate. Beautifully balanced with good acidity and not as Young and tart as the dos rubios. 93-4 Earthy minerals.”

International Wine Review

“Full ruby. Powerful dark berry and cola scents are enlivened by white pepper and rose. Juicy, concentrated black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors become spicier with air and pick up a hint of vanilla. This rich but energetic pinot finishes smooth, sweet and very long, with slow-building tannins and a touch of bitter chocolate.”

The Guidotti Vineyard

The Guidotti family started their farming in Arroyo Seco with dairy, sugar beets and lettuce. In 1951 the brothers’ father purchased this property in what is now in the Santa Lucia Highlands Appellation, at the time the property was used mainly to grow barley and to graze cattle. The Guidottis continue to farm lettuce, seed crops and other row crops here. In 2008 they added 12 acres of Pinot Noir to their ranch, located at the southern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands, choosing clones 115, 667 and Pommard. Testarossa has been making Guidotti Vineyard Pinot Noir since 2011.

Tasting Notes

“Deep red hue. Nice scents of red cherry, cranberry, papaya, jasmine, anise, and cloves. Upon taste, the small brilliant fruit, floral, and spice profile is accentuated by minerality. The mouthfeel continues to integrate nicely as it ages showing a smooth, supple, and refreshing finish. Enjoy now through 2022.”

Tasting Notes

“Brick red hue. Notes of red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, anise, and sage make for a unique match of fruit and spice. Flavors of cherry, cranberry, sage, and cloves pair nicely into a very refined profile. The tannins and acidity are in the background and very complementary of each other. While there is some tension in the tannins, this wine finishes very refined and well-structured. As these vines age and roots penetrate the challenging soils, I expect the tannins to get silky over the next few years. Enjoy now through 2020.”

Tasting Notes

“This rustic, but pretty wine is very approachable. Apple blossom and wild herbs on the nose lead to black cherry and dark plum on the palate. The juicy qualities the fruit shows pair will with the natural earthly gripiness of the vineyard. Its tannic core has loosened up to present cinnamon and baking chocolate flavors that balance well with the generous ripe dark juiciness. Enjoy now through 2017”
