NEWSLETTER What’s new with everyone at Testarossa? I have gotten back into bicycle racing so much that Testarossa now sponsors the local Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club here in the Bay Area. Nick and Claire have also gotten into riding bikes with Diana. Both kids have started racing as well. Claire, as a 10 year old last year, won the 2006 Northern California/Nevada Junior State Track Cycling Championship for 10-12 year olds and went on to compete at the 2006 Junior National Championships in Pennsylvania with her brother, Nick. Upon returning from Junior Nationals, Nick won the 12 and under kids division of the prestigious Burlingame Criterium where he beat out hundreds of other aspiring young bike racers. Motivated by Claire’s 2006 State Championship, I trained even harder this past winter and went on to win the 2007 Masters 45-54 Northern California/Nevada State Track Cycling Points Race Championship. Now Claire and I get to ride around Northern California together sporting our State Champions jerseys. In order to give back to the community, I also volunteer as a certified USA Cycling (USOC) licensed cycling coach for kids where I co-run a Junior Track Cycling Development Program twice a month at the Hellyer Park Velodrome in San Jose, California. On another note, Nick just started high school and is playing on the freshman football team at St. Francis High School in Mountain View. Interestingly, Nick’s freshman football coach, Mr. Len Christiansen, was my freshman basketball coach at Saint Francis High School many years ago. Nick is also an accomplished lacrosse player, a sport which is a great complement to football. This past spring, Nick was named Defensive Player of the Year on the South Bay Crusaders Lacrosse team. Diana’s physical activity has been a bit hampered this past year as she is slowly recovering from ACL replacement surgery from late 2006. She tore her ACL skiing the winter before and decided to put off surgery for several months to strengthen her legs. The knee is slowly getting better and she’s getting back on her bike more and more to help strengthen the leg. Diana and Claire have also become serious “foodies.” They are regularly taking cooking classes and they are always creating special recipes in the kitchen together. The Food Network has become the de facto station on in our house. The highlight of the Jensen’s summer vacation was a trip to Safari West in Sonoma County, where we all got to see the first outdoor steps of a one day old baby Giraffe. Shockingly, the giraffe was already 6 feet tall and 160lbs at birth! If you are in Sonoma, it is a great place to visit giraffes, zebra, cheetahs, lemurs, Cape buffalo, ostrich and all kinds of cool exotic animals which spread out over this 400 acre animal refuge. Wedding Bells are ringing at Testarossa – it must be the wine… This summer, Testarossa's Assistant Winemaker Adam Comartin married his college sweetheart, Jen, who he’s known since high school. Adam and Jen now live in Willow Glen and will honeymoon AFTER harvest. In September, Testarossa's Events Sales Manager, Alex Lewis, will marry her fiancé Bryan O'Neil Hughes. Alex and Bryan will be honeymooning in Africa before returning to live in the Santa Cruz Mountains. In October, Testarossa's Club Testarossa & Direct Mail Manager, Megan Reeves will be getting married to Ben Thomas. Ben and Megan also live in Willow Glen. Early next year, Testarossa's Hospitality Manager, Dana Sheldon will also be getting married along the coast north of Santa Cruz. Dana and her fiancé, Taber Seguin, will continue to live in Santa Cruz.
