Brother Onorato

Brother Onorato was raised East Coast during the Depression years. At the age of seven, he began sketching and drawing cartoons, ships and World War II planes. Brother Onorato attended school right up until he enlisted in the Army. After spending fourteen years in the military, he continued to sketch and draw. He then entered into the G. I. Bill program and applied to the Academy of Arts in Chicago as well as the Famous Art School in Westport, Connecticut. Soon after, he enrolled in a correspondence course at the North Light Art School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

At the age of thirty-three, Brother Onorato made the decision to enter the Jesuit Order. Having now been a Jesuit for over forty-seven years, his experience has included working in the bottling room at the Jesuit winery, now called Testarossa Vineyards. His artistic background has also given him the opportunity to share his skills with the art department at Jesuit High Preparatory, where he taught for a number of years. Presently, Brother Onorato lives at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center. He continues to utilize and enhance his skills as an artist while teaching and attending several seminars in oil and acrylic with the talented Mary Carroll Larsen and Gary and Kathryn Jenkins. He continues to paint various art pieces including landscapes and portraits. In addition to the display at Testarossa Vineyards, his work can be seen at the Wine Cellar restaurant as well as the Nova Art Gallery, both located in downtown Los Gatos.
