2017 La Rinconada Vineyard Chardonnay

Located in the Santa Rita Hills Appellation, La Rinconada Vineyard (Spanish for “corner”) is nestled directly between La Encantada and Sanford and Benedict vineyards above the banks of the Santa Ynez River, eight miles east of Lompoc. The vineyard was planted in 1995 by Richard Sanford with northwest exposure. The Terlato Family, owners of the adjacent Sanford and Benedict Vineyard, has owned the site since 2006.

The soil consists of Bayshore silty clay loam and sits 235 feet above sea level. The geographic anomaly of transverse (east to west) mountains allow the cool, dense maritime air from the Pacific Ocean to keep the climate moderate and allow for a lengthy, cool growing season. The climate and soil combination produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals with a rich depth and balanced acidity.

Tasting Notes

Bright straw hue. Scents of mango, coconut, pineapple, and ripe apricot start the enjoyment. After some time in the glass, there arise notes of kiwi, cantaloupe, and peach. As this wine hits the palate, tropical and caramel flavors segue to modest acidity and smooth tannins. With an unctuous quality balanced by delicate textures, this youthful wine finishes with richness and persistence. Enjoy now through 2025.
