Originally planted in 1997, the Tondre Grapefield is growing in popularity and recognition as well. Testarossa Winery has been making Tondre Grapefield Pinot Noir since 2012 and 2014 was the first vintage for Testarossa’s Tondre Grapefield Chardonnay. Tondre is located directly in the center of the Santa Lucia Highlands just to the south of Soberanes and Garys’ Vineyards. Joe Alarid and his team hand-care for each vine where they have multiple clones planted within the 80 acres of Pinot Noir and 21 acres of Chardonnay.
Winemaker Tasting Notes
"Medium red hue. This Pinot Noir is loaded with scents of cloves, jasmine, anise and pomegranate. With some aeration, notes of cranberry, blood orange, and bing cherry add complexity to this fine Pinot Noir. As this wine lands on the palate, the fruit qualities advance in front of the spice and floral notes. The texture is immensely enjoyable with unctuous and dense concentration. It is layered nicely amongst modest acidity and velvety tannins. The finish just keeps getting better and rewarding. Enjoy now through 2025." ~Director of Winemaking Bill Brosseau
93 points, Anthony Dias Blue (The SOMM Journal)
"Lovely pale ruby color; juicy, silky and elegant; pure, tangy and long; a classic expression of the most nuanced attributes of this remarkable variety."
