2016 Fogstone Vineyard Pinot Noir

The Fogstone Vineyard is on the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands Appellation. It sits at 250-400 feet in elevation with an eastern exposure and consists of rocky, well-draining loam soils. Testarossa has a longstanding relationship with Bret Sisney and Gary Filizetti, the owners of Fogstone Vineyards. Director of Winemaking, Bill Brosseau, works closely with vineyard management to champion excellence in farming in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Currently, Testarossa gets about two-thirds of the 36 acres of Chardonnay, which consists of 5 different clones. 2016 is our seventh vintage of both the Fogstone Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Fogstone Vineyard boasts numerous pinot noir clones on various root stocks and in the middle of the vineyard there are 16 rows of the La Tache clone that are currently being dry farmed. Fogstone has been instrumental in transforming farming practices in the Santa Lucia Highlands.

Winemaker notes

"Brick red hue. Lovely aromas of jasmine, violet, ripe cherries, pomegranate, and orange-zest. After some aeration, notes of truffles, nutmeg, cloves, and anise slowly diffuse into the primary aroma profile. Upon taste, this Pinot Noir continues to deliver with hedonistic pleasures of floral, fruit, and spice notes. This seductively smooth offering showcases density, intricate tannins, all coated by beautiful silkiness. While this wine is full of enjoyment now, the bright acidity, fresh flavors, and lingering finish lends itself to extended enjoyment. Enjoy now through 2025."

~Bill Brosseau, Diretor of Winemaking

93 Points / Antonio Galloni's Vinous

Deep brilliant red. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, exotic spices and candied rose, along with subtle woodsmoke and vanilla notes. Sweet, seamless and focused on the palate, offering vibrant raspberry, spicecake and cola flavors firmed by a spine of juicy acidity. Delivers a solid punch of flavor but comes off lithe and precise. A suave floral note drives the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity. Read more
