2015 La Rinconada Vineyard Chardonnay

Located in the Santa Rita Hills Appellation, La Rinconada Vineyard (Spanish for “corner”) is nestled directly between La Encantada and Sanford and Benedict vineyards above the banks of the Santa Ynez River, eight miles east of Lompoc. The vineyard was planted in 1995 by Richard Sanford with northwest exposure. The Terlato Family, owners of the adjacent Sanford and Benedict Vineyard, has owned the site since 2006.

The soil consists of Bayshore silty clay loam and sits 235 feet above sea level. The geographic anomaly of transverse (east to west) mountains allow the cool, dense maritime air from the Pacific Ocean to keep the climate moderate and allow for a lengthy, cool growing season. The climate and soil combination produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals with a rich depth and balanced acidity.

tasting notes

"Medium yellow hue. Focused scents of apple pie, mango, pineapple, and apricot which are then met with hints of brioche, crème brulee, and kiwi. These characters flow seamlessly into the palate and are paired with a vast, unctuous texture and vibrant acidity. This wine finishes very rich in concentration with some good length, lending itself to extended aging potential. Enjoy now through 2026."

"Meyer lemon pith, almond butter and light nectarine flesh show on the nose of this bottling from a vineyard on the southern edge of the appellation. It's clean, crisp and lively on the palate, with expressive and well-integrated citrus flavors. The most compelling part is the sizzling acidity and textural tension." Read more
