2013 La Rinconada Vineyard Pinot Noir

Located in the Santa Rita Hills Appellation, La Rinconada Vineyard (Spanish for “corner”) is nestled directly between La Encantada and Sanford and Benedict vineyards above the banks of the Santa Ynez River, eight miles east of Lompoc. The vineyard was planted in 1995 by Richard Sanford with northwest exposure.

The Terlato Family, owners of the adjacent Sanford and Benedict Vineyard, has owned the site since 2006. The soil consists of Bayshore silty clay loam and sits 235 feet above sea level. The geographic anomaly of transverse (east to west) mountains allow the cool, dense maritime air from the Pacific Ocean to keep the climate moderate and allow for a lengthy, cool growing season. The climate and soil combination produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals with a rich depth and balanced acidity.

Deep brick red color. Aromas of ripe cherry jam, cinnamon, lemon thyme, marmalade, white peach, and vanilla bean. While swirling in the palate, the characteristics focus into red cherries, cranberry, raspberry, and white peach. Lush, silky tannins are tamed by lively acidity and subtle oak infusion. The smooth and lingering finish make this wine quite tasty right now but should continue to deliver greatness with some age. Enjoy now through 2022.
