Located in the Santa Rita Hills Appellation, La Rinconada Vineyard (Spanish for “corner”) is nestled directly between La Encantada and Sanford and Benedict vineyards above the banks of the Santa Ynez River, eight miles east of Lompoc. The vineyard was planted in 1995 by Richard Sanford with northwest exposure. The Terlato Family, owners of the adjacent Sanford and Benedict Vineyard, has owned the site since 2006.
The soil consists of Bayshore silty clay loam and sits 235 feet above sea level. The geographic anomaly of transverse (east to west) mountains allow the cool, dense maritime air from the Pacific Ocean to keep the climate moderate and allow for a lengthy, cool growing season. The climate and soil combination produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals with a rich depth and balanced acidity.
Pale straw hue. Nice scents of lemon custard, guava, passionfruit, pineapple, papaya. Upon taste, flavors of lemon, mango, pineapple, and minerality interweave nicely. Zesty and vibrant acidity is polished by a seamless texture. The focused finish and smooth ending make for a great food pairing or enjoyed on its own. Drink now through 2021.
