This is our second Pinot Noir release from this latest vineyard collaboration between Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni. Named for the family of the original Spanish land grant, the site is in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation. It is situated on a small bluff right next door to famed Garys’ Vineyard. First planted in 2007, Soberanes has thirty-eight acres of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah. It sits on classic alluvial sandy loam soil. Mark Pisoni and Gary Franscioni are the vineyard managers.
This release is an exciting one for Testarossa; it is a continuation of our long relationship with the two Garys. Given our track record, Director of Winemaking, Bill Brosseau is allowed substantial input on the viticultural practices in the blocks destined for Testarossa.
The 2012 growing season in the Santa Lucia Highlands was free of significant weather events. Rain did not impact the budding period and the predictable weather allowed the fruit to hang and ripen for as long as needed, delivering an abundant yield.
"Deep red color. Scents of chokecherry, sage, pomegranate, and orange blossoms unite in this youthful Pinot Noir. Upon taste, the chokecherry, sage, and orange blossoms team up with silky tannins and vibrant acidity. This well polished offering shows many layers, yet is very balanced. Long, lingering, and delicate finish lend this wine to early to moderate ageworthiness. Enjoy now through 2020."
