Rosella’s Vineyard is one of the most renowned estates in the Santa Lucia Highlands. It is owned by Gary and Rosella Franscioni. Originally planted in 1996, Rosella’s has ten acres of Chardonnay, split between Dijon clones 76 and 96. Two acres are annually allocated to Testarossa. The estate’s close proximity to Monterey Bay makes for a very cool, true Region I climate. The growing season here is one of the longest in California, allowing for full flavor development on the vine.
Testarossa has been making Chardonnay from this vineyard since 1999 - the 2012 vintage marks our fourteenth release of Rosella’s.
The weather during the 2012 vintage in the Santa Lucia Highlands was a textbook season marked by moderate conditions from beginning to end of the season. Calm and steady weather patterns resulted in larger than expected yields.
"Medium straw color. This Chardonnay opens nicely with hints of green apple, fig, grapefruit, and followed by notes of molasses, caramel, nutmeg, honey, and crème brulee. The fruit and dessert fusion sails nicely into the palate and is tamed by bright acidity. There is an intense purity of characters while the wine displays ample richness. The finish is quite balanced and with great polish, leading to immediate enjoyment now. Drink now through 2020."
