Owned by the Talley Family, who have farmed Southern San Luis Obispo County for three generations, the Rincon Vineyard dates back to 1982. Planted just 8 miles Northeast of the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard has soils that are reminiscent of Burgundy, in particularly the Côte de Nuits with its steep terrain. Working closely with the Talley Family, Testarossa owners, Rob and Diana Jensen, and Director of Winemaking Bill Brosseau, have created this very exceptional Pinot Noir with classic old world flavors.
The 2012 vintage was one of those rare years where both quality and yield were exceptional, probably the best overall since 2005. The growing season was ideal with slightly below average rainfall, moderate canopy growth and very little mildew or botrytis. Due to excellent spring weather, fruit set was ideal. Yields were about 20% above average and the resulting wines are elegant and balanced.
Dark red hue. Our inaugural offering of Rincon Pinot Noir offers notes of chokecherry, cranberry, vanilla bean, orange blossoms, papaya, and dried apricot. With aeration, a very nice floral character leaps out. Upon taste, dried fruits on the palate lead over the fresh fruit profile and silky tannins. Expansive and smooth yet finishes refined with nice minerality. Enjoy now through 2023.
