Gary Pisoni and his family have never wavered in their belief that Pinot Noir is the greatest red varietal on the planet and that the slopes of the Santa Lucia Highlands in the cool northern climes of California’s Monterey County are the best place to grow Pinot Noir. His family’s intense obsession with growing the world’s best Pinot Noir shows in every bottle from their unique vineyard.
Full bodied richness and fruit flavors of plum and black cherry dominate our Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir. The forward fruit is complemented by old world characteristics of earth, loam, and dried leaf. The long velvety finish of this wines shows hints of mocha and chocolate. A firm backbone of acidity ensures that this wine will age gracefully for ten years or more.
The 2012 growing season in the Highlands was free of significant weather events. No significant rain impacted the budding period and the predictable weather allowed the fruit to hang as long as needed for full ripening of the fruit, delivering an abundant yield.
"Dark red hue. Nice scents of red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, orange blossoms start out this engaging Pinot Noir. The notes of cranberry and cherry intensify on the palate and are met by subtle characters of pomegranate, vanilla bean, raspberry, and blackberry. While the mouth-feel is lush and very appealing now, the vibrant acidity and fine grain tannins lend this wine to many days ahead of enjoyment. The finish is very pure and genuine, showing great focus. Enjoy now through 2022."
