2011 Doctor's Vineyard Pinot Noir

Doctor’s Vineyard is owned and farmed by the Hahn family and sits almost in the middle of the Santa Lucia Highlands. This 2011 release marks the third vintage in Testarossa’s relationship with Doctor’s Vineyard. The 2010 vintage was extremely well-received by critics and consumers alike and the 2011 is proving to show promise as well. The vineyard sits at 350-540 ft. in elevation with a southeast exposure. Testarossa receive 24 acres of Pinot Noir from Doctor’s Vineyard. Twenty-nine barrels were produced.

The 2011 vintage was an exceptionally cool and wet year in the Highlands, providing a small crop of focused, intense Pinot fruit. The Pinot Noir harvest at Doctor’s took place from late September to early October. Upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was carefully hand sorted, de-stemmed and allowed an extended cold soak. A gentle gravity flow process is used throughout the winery. The whole berries went through primary fermentation in our custom open top fermenters. The free run wine was then racked into French oak, of which approximately fifty percent was new. Secondary malolactic conversion occurred naturally. The wine was allowed ten months of barrel aging. Twenty-nine barrels were produced.

"Dark red color. This Doctor’s Vineyard oozes complex notes of anise, cloves, ripe cherry, currant, and blackberry jam. With the cooler vintage of 2011, there is a neat convergence of spice and dark fruit, paired with ample acidity from this vineyard.  While the tannins are smooth and silky now, the acidity helps carry the intensity of this Pinot Noir for now and into the future. Drink now through 2020."
